Search Function Not Working In Xp

When i click search in any explorer window the blue pane opens with the assistant but i have no search options or input boxes any ideas? Loading... I tried installing the srchasst file too, no luck.When I hit the search button in Explorer it pauses for a good 8 seconds like it's trying to find something and can't.
