Sony Vegas claims that it does support MOV. Then, it would be easy to import and edit .mov files with Vegas Pro 9/10/11/12/13. I logged on as Admin and was able to import MOV files into SVP 12, so there must be a permissions problem. I don't have Quicktime loaded and open .mov files, but .mov is a wrapper and could have different codecs inside.
But, of course, it has to go into a wrapper. I have Sony Vegas HD Platinum 11 and the most updated version now is 11.0.295. The codecs that ship with Vegas work fine if you don't replace them. AVI is not a good home for more advanced CODECs like AVC/MPEG-4 Part 10/H.264, but it's just dandy under Quicktime (the MPEG-4 file wrapper, .mp4, was derived from the Quicktime file
Newest versions of QT are not always Vegas-friendly. There's no reason to expect a 2-3 year old program to edit video from a brand new camera...
