The game can handle 2x anti aliasing without problems, 4x gave strange effects in my game.

If you want a smotth experience it's recommended to keep that setting off. With edge smoothing off, everything looks fine, so I've determined that the issue is related to the edge smoothing setting somehow. Those white edges are smooth, but the inside window frame edges are still jagged.
