This morning, I plugged my drive up to work on a project at work. The service centre that was taking care of my harddrive says that the disc is to damaged to recover. If I return this drive to costco, how do I protect my personal data? I'm still waiting on the suggestions on how to successfully open the case.

I hope this is a permanent solution. Seagate Manager Windows 10 I always thought Seagate was a reputable brand. So I would try it on another computer first and if it works there you know you have at least a problem with the usb controller and hopefully no other problems. Thank you so much!!

There is no doubt that the USB-SATA PCB at the base of the case runs far too hot, (the heat rising into the upper section containg the drive itself), and cooling, I took the drive apart (a major pain). It is not making any weird noises so I doubt it's the HD itself. If you can get it running it would be prudent to transfer the contents to a new drive. Apparenty, a file was partly written to disk. There are 3 options: (1) Carefully dismantle the drive system and rebuild in a larger enclosure (easily available).
