Hence me searching and finding you guys, looking for some one to make a doll of and stick pins in to. Hard Drive didn't open so I couldn't do anything else. There is no gentle way to do it, just pry the case apart. Most of what I have seen is, it's the circuit board inside controlling the hard drive...and then other have a grinding noise, which is not good at all. You might just want to void the warranty anyway and slowly open it up, or e-mail Seagate and explain the situation. Unlike most of you folks, mine has been working flawlessly. Seagate Manager Windows 10 Success seems within my grasp. The power supply isn't the issue, and I too have hundreds of gigs of data that I really don't want to lose. Could this be the harddrive, or just the enclosure that's broken?

I replaced the Seagate with a Iomega external drive, which I am happy with so far, and the Seagate that I got back from my retailer has been collecting dust.

Inless you smell somthing burning form the inside its probably not the circuit bord! I have to keep going to Device Manager and Uninstalling the driver and then plugging it back in so it automatically installs itself and... If it's really important data then pay for a professional data recovery service. Since the mechanism inside the seagate drive is damaged it will never start again.
