I read the manual that came with the switch, and changed the jumper setting to pull/push 5.1 no matter what (Mode 2), and that solved the issue. I'm going to try a comparable switch from Monoprice. When I bought my New Flat Screen Sony Bravia TV 'cos my 32" Phillips CRT blew up! This technology was/is used to connect audio between components like amplifiers, pre-amps and receivers. Typically you get 2 channel analog or optical (only) digital outputs on most smart TVs. If the source audio never touches the TV before its split, why wouldn't the end result be 5.1?
When one buys a TOSLINK cable one should choose a quartz glass based cable as it eliminates most of the aforementioned problems.
