So I rebooted and tried a third time and the computer wouldn't recognize it at all and began making the clicking noise every 2 or 3 seconds. However, once I turn the external hard drive off, my desktop will proceed smoothly. I first used it about 8 years ago on a hard drive from my old G4 powerbook, and it worked like a charm. 4 or 5 hours in the freezer (inside After about 6 months the drive started to exhibit the same behaviour - "Click of Death" - and we were suddenly unable to access the drive.
It has saved the data from my hard drive. That is why most drives have the "do not cover" warning on the label. If the ext HDD is USB powered make sure it is plugged directly into a PC USB port and not a passive hub with other devices attached to the hub. Owe you one!!

If SeaTools fails to function properly or is unresponsive, replace the drive. I can only assume it's the board on the drive that's damaged. Fucckkk WD, never again why I buy from them!
Personally I have no respect for Seagate external drives. To ALL Who Donated! Casey Reply November 10, 2009 Sorry about that, I misread your comment. This will almost certainly have damaged the head and the platter because they should never touch each other.If it's still covered by warranty, contact Seagate about returning it for a replacement.
